The Physical Realm

The Physical Realm

Physical Realm

Hi there! As I watch the calm rain come and go, I think about how all of the realms of wellness are interconnected, especially the Physical Realm. I also think about how far I have improved over the last few years.

As you know, the 8 realms of wellness are: emotional, occupational, social, financial, physical, environmental, spiritual, and intellectual. If one realm is not up to par, one or more of the other realms most likely will be suffering as well.

Which is why it is now time to talk about the physical realm

Our physical health is very important because our body’s health contributes to our mind’s well-being. If our body is not in good health, we may suffer from mental health impairments such as anxiety or depression. If we are weak or overweight, we may struggle with low confidence or self-esteem. This, in turn, can create a spiral effect causing us to lose confidence and not pursue our goals anymore. This further creates that hard to break depression cycle. Though a depressive cycle is not always the result of low physical health, it happens more often than one might think. Hopefully, this example shows the importance of physical health in our lives and how quickly it can affect the other realms of wellness.

Here are some things we can do to improve our physical health:

  • Get good, quality sleep; at least 6-8 hours per night

  • Drink about 64 ounces of water per day (carry around a water bottle!)

  • Eat foods that are healthy for us: fresh whole foods as much as possible!

Processed foods can be detrimental to our health causing problems such as unwanted weight gain, diabetes, inflammation, a sluggish liver, and other conditions that lead to other serious health problems.

  • Exercise or move your body for at least 20-30 minutes daily (do more if you can!)

I will have more information regarding fitness in later posts. In the mean time.
